Letter from Kenrick Mark (28th Edition)
Letter from Kenrick Mark
Dear Esteemed Readers,
There were three groups total — yours truly, Serena and Luna presented on Greenpeace. Amy, Elaye and Ervin were in another group, and then Bianca, Silvia and Inge formed the last group. We presented on the social media presence and impact of Greenpeace. Some quick details of our presentation include an Introduction of Greenpeace, Communication Analysis, Critical Analysis, Six Part Model of Cyber interactivity, Interactive Features, Individual Measurements, and Recommendations. Our presentation showcased our active preparation and research. Although we didn’t get 100%, we did well. Our Professors Mudra and Mark provided many suggestions and critical analysis. We used these to make amendments to the final paper we submitted the next week via moodle. The other two groups did very excellent presentations in my perspective. Inge, Bianca, Silvia and Amy were very articulate and did a well rounded research and presentation. I was happy for them.
I was glad our first presentation was over. Although I was nervous and confused somewhat, I still managed to do my best. We went home and it was raining a bit (well, just a sprinkle). I quickly walked down the streets. Many British people were still walking around with huge jackets. I only ate some Biscoff cookies and drank some water. I also had a Kitkat chocolate bar! I had some work to do for my foundation in Belize. I spent around two hours working on interviews, and having a meeting with a few people affiliated with my foundation. I had more chocolate later on (smiling).
I skyped with my comrade from Belize City. We had a good conversation! I told him about my excellent meal at Alacosta Coffee and the huge presentation. He told me that there were a lot of rain in Belize, among other things. He always made me laugh, joking about foods I should try, and what could happen, and things I should do while in the UK. I always asked him about any new food dishes he made. He usually makes pasta dishes and cheese cake. He mentioned that cheese cake was his favorite dessert, followed closely by Potato Pone (which was my #1 dessert). We spoke for nearly an hour. I showered and went to sleep after 12 midnight.
I woke up around 730am. I had a banana and a chocolate muffin for breakfast. I always drank a glass of water every morning too. This was one of my healthy practices growing up. I showered and prepared for class. Today was Foundations of Public Relations and Corporate Communications, a very connected, full fledged class. Professor Mark usually spearheaded the discussions for this class. As a matter of fact, I just spoke to Professor Mark via Twitter. I was delighted to hear from him after many years. He reminded me to keep focus and progress my career in diplomacy and political communication. He saw great potential in this field for me. During this session, we learnt about the Melbourne Mandate. This forum helped to formulate respect and value for the Public Relations discipline. Some key points included — building cultures of engagement, defining and maintaining organization’s values, and instilling responsible behaviors. After a mid-break, we were placed in groups and did research on an institution in the UK, incorporating the concepts of the Melbourne Mandate. We also discussed various scholarly articles in related fields.
I went home after class. When I arrived home, I realized my ear pods was missing. I probably left it in class. It was a white ear pod and the tables were white! I went to purchase another one from a nearby London gift shop. As I walked back home in the busy flowing streets, I glimpse at McDonalds. I was hungry too. I went in and purchased 2 chicken sandwiches, 2 portion of fries and a soda. I went to my room, watched cooking shows, and enjoyed my Lunch. A few of my comrades mentioned that McDonalds wasn’t healthy. I loved the food though. It was a new usual from Rice & Beans, Stew Chicken and Vegetables we eat in Belize.
Later in the afternoon, I walked to library. I began some more research, and readings. I also had to catch up on papers I haven’t read for classes long before. Post graduate studies are full of reading, and reading some more. I tried my utmost best to acquire the knowledge and understand as much. Nearly every hour, I took a 5 minute break — going to the bathroom, or eating a snack (I usually place chocolates/cookies in my bag), or taking a stroll down the street, enjoying the fresh air, the joyful noises from the passing crowds of school children or tourists, and the usual construction hammering, et al. I stayed until 10pm at the library. I had toast and butter, and some mango orange juice for dinner.
I slept well that night!
I’m quite exhausted for tonight. I will continue my journey in another edition of Letter from Kenrick Mark.
Sincerely yours,
Kenrick Mark
