Letter from Kenrick Mark (48th Edition)
Letter from Kenrick Mark
Dear Esteemed Readers,
On Monday night, I woke up after mid-night. I guess I was thinking about my final paper, which I was critical analyzing. I just thought of this and many more — like being away from home, missing my comrade from Belize City, and wondering if I would be successful and graduate with my Master’s degree. I couldn’t imagine or pre-determine any expectations for the months ahead. I suffered from insomnia many nights. I got up, and walked around in my room. I looked out my window and saw a bare courtyard with trees and benches. It was 1am in the morning. I decided to do my laundry. I went down stairs, and only the security guard was there. He was just going to make hot coffee too. I heard trucks and buses passing on the street too. I placed my clothes in the washing machine, swiped my card, and press the buttons to start the cycle. I walked over to the glass ‘floor to ceiling’ windows and peeped outside. I saw a few cars as they sped off, and a few people walking around. I went back to my kitchen, and arranged my food cabinet. I had a few groceries in there. An hour later, my clothes were finished. I just hang them in my room to dry, which took about a full day, given my window stays open. I fell back asleep around 3am.
I woke up around 8am. I showered and got dressed. I went to the library to focus on readings for the upcoming class, and continue my final paper for Foundations of Scholarship. I went to the first floor to my usual section where the PR books are. I kept reading my paper, gathering areas I agree and disagree with, and using literature from other academic sources, to critique the context and relevance. Some moments, I basically gave up, walking away, and going to the other end of library, or grabbing a chocolate bar and crisp or water. After about 3 hours, of continuing this paper (it was still un-done), I focused on reading papers and articles for my afternoon class, Media Relations and Social Media.
Professor Mudra led the discussions for class that evening. The topics included brand communities and social media. We also touched on Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Professor Mudra explained the concepts surrounding brand communities, and of course, provide vivid examples. We also had a group work to describe and analyze a brand community. During class, Serena, Luna and I usually sat together, and we shared information related to events we know about which might be related to the context of the class.
I walked home in the dark, cold evening. Some of my classmates went along too. They usually boarded the DLR to their respective areas in London. I went home, dropped off my bag, and went out for a night stroll. I ended up at Nandos, ordering a delicious plate of grilled chicken, fries and coleslaw. I also had a cold, refreshing glass of mango juice. I just had light snacks during the day, and I truly enjoyed my plate at Nandos. I began to sit on the side tables, since I was a party of one. I enjoyed the view from the inside looking out at the lights, the night sky, the passersby, and I occasionally over-heard some conversations (smiling). Nandos has a rustic, vintage, South African theme for their restaurants and I loved it!
I went home an hour later, after walking up the sidewalk at the bank of the River Thames, exploring fresh air, and observing the places and people. I also had some work to finish up for my charity, Teens Belize Organization. I had a Personality of the Month Award project, and Interview Features to conduct.
I’m quite exhausted for tonight. I will continue my journey in a next edition of Letter from Kenrick Mark.
Sincerely yours,
Kenrick Mark
