Letter from Kenrick Mark

Dear Esteemed Readers,

I woke up around 730am on Thursday morning. I relaxed in bed for an hour, while tuned in to the BBC News. I was more than happy to be watching a LIVE feed of international news, and our course, from the prestigious Broadcasting House of the BBC. I also opened my window, and very cold breeze rushed in. I was living the moment.

After about an hour, I got up, showered, and got dressed for the day. Firstly, I went to McDonalds and purchased delicious pancakes with syrup, and a hot black coffee. I tried the British Accent while interacting with the lady at the counter. I wasn’t too good (smiling). I went back to my room, and enjoyed my Breakfast. After this, I packed my orange colored Sainsbury shopping bag with ‘goodies’ for the day. I added apples, cookies, water, salty crackers, chocolate macaroons, Kitkat, and potato crisps. I walked out of Cutty Sark Halls, quite leisurely, onwards to our university’s library. There was an abundance of people walking on the streets too, everyone were adorned in their winter coats, as it was getting colder on a daily basis (for me, I guess).

I walked pass the Turkish Restaurant, and peeped inside. I saw the owners and I waved. During my first two weeks in London, I had lunch there. An elder Turkish couple owns it, and whenever I visited, they always spoke to me for a while. It made me feel so special. They even saw my university’s ID and books once, and asked ‘are you going to the University?’ I said ‘Yes’, with a bright smile. The food there was awesome; however, I never went by after my first two weeks (reason unknown). When I had lunch there in September, they had a full house.

I forgot to mention this in one of my earlier letters (this happened in October). About two doors down, there was a cake/pastry shop. I bought a hot chocolate once, and it was great! I went there on a second occasion, bought my favorite hot chocolate, and had my McDonalds chicken sandwich and fries there (I bought the sandwich on the way). On the third occasion (I also bought a McDonalds sandwich and fries), when I went to purchase a hot chocolate, the lady told me that I couldn’t eat McDonalds there. So, I just took the hot chocolate to go. I went to eat at one of the concrete benches near the Cutty Sark ship. In my perspective, that lady was harsh! I never went back to that shop again (and I passed by nearly every day).

I arrived at library, and continued my critical analysis paper for about 2 hours. Then, I began reading and doing further research for my other assignments and classes. Of course, I had delicious treats from my snack bag every hour. I also took breaks and went outside for fresh air.

I went to class around 4pm. Professor Christian headed the discussion. There were various theories and concepts related to planning and communication which were discussed. Honestly, I understood about 50% of what was taught in many sessions. I always had to go back to the presentation or articles to re-read and fully understand. When I was stuck, I would message Inge and Bianca, as they seemed to have greater understanding of these Public Relations concepts and theories. During the second section of the class, we got into groups of 3 to analyze current issues in London related to planning.

After class, I walked home in a drizzly, dark night. In London, there were rainy days, cold days , ice cold days, and super sunny hot days. I loved all of them! I went home, showered and got in bed. I skyped with my parents, and then my comrade from Belize City. I enjoyed every moment video chatting with them.

I fell asleep soon after.

I’m quite exhausted for tonight. I will continue my journey in a next edition of Letter from Kenrick Mark.

Sincerely yours,

Kenrick Mark
