Letter from Kenrick Mark
Dear Esteemed Readers,
Several times I had extreme dreams! I believe it was all a part of my brain thinking too much about academics, deadlines, and life in a modern first world city! On Thursday night, I dreamt of being back home, and then wondering how I would arrive in England on time for classes the next day (smiling). I woke up for a while, then went back to sleep, realizing that it was the weekend, and there was no direct schedule.
I woke up around 730am, and relaxed, checking emails and social media. I usually replied to messages, especially those related to my charity’s efforts in Belize. After finishing my charity’s work, I got out of bed, opened my window, and arranged my room, dusting off too. I also vacuumed the floors, and cleaned my bathroom. I went into the kitchen, and washed up a few plates and cups I had from the day before. I also cleaned the kitchen tables and chairs, and washing area. I was glad to have done a few apartment chores!
I relaxed again, then showered, and got dressed. It was Friday, and traditionally, I would visit Lewisham or another area of London. I boarded the DLR. There were crowds of people coming off at Cutty Sark Maritime Greenwich (tourists, I guess). However, only a few people were heading downward to Lewisham. In 15 minutes, I arrived, tapped my card at the machine and walked towards the shopping center. I decided to purchase 3 sausage rolls at Greggs. These were great for Breakfast! I sat on a metal bench beside some elder Indians. They looked at me, and I smiled, saying ‘Good morning!’ We started talking. I introduced myself, and they did too. We had a humble, yet thrilling conversation for nearly half an hour. Then, they left. I also went inside a few clothing stores — H & M, and a few others. I bought a few gifts for my family and my comrade from Belize City. I spent nearly 2 hours in these stores, including Primark, parading the aisles, carefully observing clothing, et al, and of course, brands and prices. Thankfully, these stores were in sections by gender, then by types of clothing. The stores represented an abundance of modern styles, casual attires, colorful, and of course, European.
I purchased fresh apples, bananas, and pears at the market. I got a basket of each fruit for only a pound! I love the pears! Mamey, Pears, and Monkey Cap are my favorite fruits!!! I also went into the pound store to purchase peanut butter chocolate cups, and M & Ms. I walked around the remainder of the market, sight-seeing.
I walked back to the DLR. I arrived to a Cutty Sark Maritime Greenwich flowing with tourists! It was super busy! I had to push through the crowded street, as I walked back to my apartment. I dropped off the items and fruits I purchased in my room, and walked over to Alacosta Coffee. No matter how busy they were, the Asian owners always gave each customer a warm welcome and a courteous smile. I had a delicious bagel sandwich and Coffee Latte. I also had chocolate cake!
After a good afternoon meal, I went to walk around the Greenwich area. I observed the hurray of the tourists as they paraded around the markets, and various areas. I noticed many purchased souvenirs from the local shops and booths. I went to sit on a bench on the banks of River Thames. I had a moment of relaxation.
I went back to my room later in the afternoon, and took a nap. I woke up around 530pm, showered, and went to library. I did my readings and research up until 10pm.
I went home. It was a Friday night full of activity — cheerful people in the streets, restaurants were lighted up, and glowing with laughter and fun and food, and cars were zooming away! The big red buses were always dropping off and picking up passengers at the bus stops.
I’m quite exhausted for tonight! I will continue my journey in a next edition of Letter from Kenrick Mark.
Sincerely yours,
Kenrick Mark
