Letter from Kenrick Mark (53rd Edition)
Letter from Kenrick Mark
Dear Esteemed Readers,
It was Sunday! I woke up around 8am and opened my windows for fresh air! It was very cold! I arranged my room. I usually have bags with fruits beside my refrigerator and bags with books from library. I placed the books on my shelves, and arranged the fruits alongside my cookies, chocolates and snacks on the refrigerator.
I showered, got dressed and went to purchase water and soft, white sliced bread at Sainsbury. While browsing the shopping aisles, I also picked up double Chocolate muffins, corn flakes, milk, plantain chips (from a Jamaican section) and rice cakes. While I was walking back to my apartment, I noticed many more people were already around touring. Sainsbury Chocolate muffins are a winner! I highly recommend it!
I dropped off my items, and met my flat mate on the way in. We said ‘Hi’ only, as she was rushing too. After this, I went to the Arab barber shop, a few stores down from Alacosta Coffee. There were 3 gentlemen in the queue, so I waited for nearly 1 1/2 hour. I finally trimmed my ‘bushy’ hair. I didn’t allow the barber to shave my facial hair, as they used the very sharp razors, and I was entirely scared of sharp objects. They Arab guy smiled when I told him abruptly — ‘No, I don’t want to do that (referring to the sharp razor blade). I paid 10 sterling pounds for a haircut (It was 9 pounds but I gave him a tip). When I arrived back at my apartment, I shaved with the regular disposable shavers (bought from the Pound Store). Actually, I shaved every two or three days.
I showered again, and went out, hoping to find delicious street food I would truly like. I always checked online on places to visits in the city, activities, and traditional and international cuisines. I noticed there was a Jamaican Take Out Cafe, about 10 minutes north of Cutty Sark Halls. I did checked it out, but it wasn’t ‘my vibes’. I also noticed a Pizza Spot on the way (and it was directly opposite McMillan Village (another student hall), but again, it wasn’t ‘my vibes’. There were a few cozy, splendid coffee shops along the way too.
I walked back to the Greenwich Area, and went to my apartment. I had corn flakes for brunch, while watching cooking shows, including the Bare Pantry Show, Laura in the Kitchen, and Sean Kuylen’s cooking episodes. I also skyped with one of my comrades. I decided to relax in my room, for a few hours. I heard my flat mates talking too. I guess they had friends over. Occasionally, I would see fellow school mates in the courtyard, sitting on the benches, talking, having a cup of coffee, or a smoke.
Around 230pm, I walked over to the Library and continued my final paper for Foundations of Scholarship. I was making progress — indeed, a happy scholar! There were many students in the library too, at all the levels, working on their projects. Many were having group meetings, others were purchasing ‘goodies’ from Starbucks, and a few were just laughing and having fun! After about 2 hours with my paper, I began to read articles for my classes. I had to re-read many sections of papers, and many papers, to understand the concepts and examples.
During breaks, I spoke to a few Arabs, and Indians who were in my area at the library.
I left the library around 10pm. I was also speaking to Luna and Serena via social media during the daytime. They were sharing their experiences of classes and struggles with assignments. I told them I had similar challenges. We were all Masters of Arts in Public Relations candidates at an international university, after all. We needed to embrace our intelligence, confidence, and become holistic.
I went home after 10pm. Many couples were walking down the streets, holding hands, and some were just standing in a corner, and talking.
I’m quite exhausted for tonight. I will continue my journey in a next edition of Letter from Kenrick Mark.
Sincerely yours,
Kenrick Mark
