Letter from Kenrick Mark

Dear Esteemed Readers,

I woke up around 8am. I showered, got dressed, and made cornflakes. I enjoyed my breakfast, while watching BBC News. After this, I checked my emails and social media messages/updates. I also focused two hours on conducting efforts for my charity, Teens Belize Organization. In May, 2008, under my leadership, a prestigious Personality of the Month Award program was established to honor hardworking, talented, intelligent and deserving young Belizeans. The award is complemented by an official interview with yours truly. So, I was carefully reviewing and finalizing the official presentation which was launched on our official website and social media page.

Around 11am, I packed a bright orange colored Sainsbury shopping bag with snacks — chocolates, cookies, water, juice, crisps, crackers, and muffins. Many times I bought hot drinks — coffee mocha, coffee latte, hot chocolate, tea, flat white, or black coffee from Costa (if I was at university) or Starbucks (if I was at library) to complete the cold weather, and of course, to keep me awake and energetic. I walked over to library. I went to my usual spot at the PR books section. I had a project for our Planning & Communication class to begin. I also submitted a formative assignment for this class. I began reading articles, chapters, and literature to become more cultured on the topics. I also spoke to a few students who were sitting beside me. They were postgraduate candidates too, but had different majors including Finance & Economics. I spent the entire afternoon in the library.

I went to class in the evening. Professor Kristen always arrived ‘on the hour’. Luna, Serena and I arrived about 15 minutes before, and we engaged in a friendly conversation of our daily lives in London. Our other classmates began arriving too, and soon, conversations of all types were abuzz! In class, Professor Kristen continued to explain concepts relating to Critical Analysis, proper writing skills, and research. I loved these classes very much, as it was helping me as I progressed with my final paper. We also had a class group activity. We got in groups of 3 and analyzed briefly an academic paper. Class finished shortly after the activity.

After class finished, we went home. I forgot to mention that in late October, daylight saving time ended. I also noticed a big shift — as at 4pm daily — it was already night and daylight was at 8am. As I walked home through the middle university gateway, I indulged in a Southeast Greenwich, London night — lights of all colors and sizes sparkled from tall buildings, abodes, passing boats, planes flying above, the red double-decker buses, and automobiles; the fascination of British & international cultures of men and women passing by; and the mixture of sounds, distant and close by — rocked the ambience. I tried to reflect and celebrate many little moments. I walked daily to university, library, stores, and other places, and I observe many things. I observed people, culture, conversations, tones, and random objects and activities as it helped me to adapt and cope with life in a first world city.

While passing McDonalds, I decided to purchase my favorite — chicken sandwiches, French fries and a milk shake. I always took a bunch of napkins, ketchup and straws from the self-help desk in the front too. I should have gone to the library, but decided to enjoy dinner in my room, while watching cooking shows.

After a while, I went to do my laundry. I sent some emails to my comrades while waiting for my laundry to finish.

I showered and went to sleep.

I’m quite exhausted for tonight. I will continue my journey in a next edition of Letter from Kenrick Mark.

Sincerely yours,

Kenrick Mark
