Letter from Kenrick Mark

Dear Esteemed Readers,

It was the last day of the month! My tenure in the U.K was surely moving on. I remember the early days preparing my applications and having initial meetings with my comrade Ebony. She was already in Scotland pursuing her postgraduate degree, but we kept in touch via email and social media. I truly reminisced on these wonderful ‘little’ moments — these moments carry us through the difficult periods of life.

I had 4 slices of toasts with that tasty butter! After breakfast, I went to Sainsbury to purchase water, bread, and a few items. I loved the morning walks through this south-eastern part of London. I saw many people driving to work, while some walked (those who worked around the area, or those who commuted via the DLR). While walking back, I also noticed that adults and school kids purchased breakfasts at McDonalds and Subway (which was adjacent each other). The kids probably loved the pancakes or the egg and ham sandwiches with hash browns at McDonalds. I purchased pancakes a few times and they were very delicious! I had them with syrup. I initially thought that the pancakes might have been ‘basic, with no real flavor’. I was wrong (smile).

I went to library as I had to continue more assignments and research. I also took a bag of snacks — fruits, muffins, crisps, chocolates. I went to the first floor again, near the PR books section. I had a very industrious day reading papers, researching and conducting coursework. I also met Serena and Luna later on in the afternoon. They were also doing some work. For lunch, I bought a roast chicken salad sandwich from the Starbucks outlet in our library. I actually enjoyed this!!! I also bought a fruit juice.

We didn’t have any class for Foundations of Scholarships in the afternoon. The submission of our final paper over the weekend signaled the end of our semester for that particular subject. I felt relieved but kept worrying about my performance on the paper. I was also working on our Wednesday class presentation.

I went home around 9pm. I noticed many students were in the library too, at the various levels. I believe everyone was focused on their projects and readings too. It was a beautiful, very freezing night, full of multiple colors of lights glowing from all directions. I got home, and went to do laundry. Thankfully, the washing machines were available at the hour. I did my washing and had my clothes hanged out in my room later.

I showered, and checked my personal emails. I also got messages from my comrade in Belize City. He kept in touch and asked about my tenure so far. He was always busy too — work, then family, and socials. We also spoke about the various types of food we had over the week (smile). I told him that I loved any flour based food items such as the various types of breads, tortilla, et al. I’m not a fan of meats — beef, pork, fish (I love chicken though). I always enjoyed chicken feet and gizzard at our restaurant in Belize. He loved pasta a lot, and cheesecake too. He told me he made his very own cheesecakes (various flavors).

Luna also messaged me about school work, so we began talking after.

I went to sleep around 11pm.

I’m quite exhausted for tonight. I will continue my journey in a next edition of Letter from Kenrick Mark.

Sincerely yours,

Kenrick Mark
