Letter from Kenrick Mark

Dear Esteemed Readers,

It was Wednesday, December 2nd! Finally, the day of my second formal presentation! However, I was a bit hesitant on my presentation content! I felt highly strung all morning, including during the presentation and Question & Answer segment. I woke up around 730am, relaxed for a while in bed, thinking about the day ahead. I checked my social media messages too. I took a shower later, had toasts and butter, and then packed my bag and walked down the main stairs at Cutty Sark Halls (my building).

I wore a full black semi-formal suit, along with my army green colored winter coat and my school bag. I arrived at class about 15 minutes before the session, and some of my classmates were already waiting in the lounge area. They had on semi-formal presentation attires too. Professor Mark and Christian arrived at 9am exact and we began our presentations. My group accepted to conduct our presentation first. Georgia, Ervin and I presented our analysis on the integrated public relations campaign of Porsche ‘Made for Magic. Everyday’. The general campaign, deemed a marketing effort, but encompassing a huge communication sector, was specifically designed to boost Porsche sales in March Madness. Georgia introduced the campaign, and details. I was in charge of identifying the theories applied, and Ervin presented an understanding of the models’ use to incorporate persuasion, to boost sales and influence Porsche’s changing reputation. After our presentation, our Professors critiqued our content and performance. They told me that I would need to provide critical analysis and evidence to any perspectives generated. Ervin and Georgia did well on their parts. I was thankful for this to be over! We only had to write our final report now. Georgia was very supportive and led this section. She combined our parts, built on any content that seemed too weak, finalized and submitted our presentation by the week’s end. I was weary, thankful, but nervous. I kept wondering what my grade would be.

After all the presentations were done, I walked over to my favorite coffee shop, Alacosta Coffee. I had an amazing Spinach Potato Curry with Nan Bread, and a Coffee Mocha. I really enjoyed this! It was wholesome and home-style cooked! The cafe had a full house too. I saw a few ladies who worked at the University of Greenwich. They were having an endearing conversation, and some of the Curry too! After about an hour, I walked back to my room to relax!

I messaged my comrade from Belize City. I told him about my presentation, and the challenges I had. He reminded me to keep a positive spirit and continue to study wisely!

I went to sleep. I woke up in the evening around 5pm, and took a shower.

I began to watch a movie. Around 7pm, I went for an evening stroll in the Greenwich Area. I walked down the banks of the River Thames. It was super cold!!! I felt a cool whip of breeze even though I had on my winter coat. It was a marvelous evening. Many people were at Nandos, having those amazing Portuguese-African foods, including the peri-peri style chicken. I sat on one of the river side benches when I was walking back. I tacitly observed the night — all the passers-by, the chatter in all languages, the dark night sky, the shining lights from across the bay at Canary Wharf, the boats gliding down the River Thames, all of the activities. It was unwrinkled, reanimating.

I walked back home later in the night. I had some cornflakes, with cold milk.

I got in bed, and watched a movie again.

I also communicated with my fellow Chevening Scholars from Belize.

I’m quite exhausted for tonight. I will continue my journey in a next edition of Letter from Kenrick Mark.

Sincerely yours,

Kenrick Mark
