Letter from Kenrick Mark

Dear Esteemed Readers,

It was Friday, December 11th! I woke up around 8am, and relaxed in bed. I checked emails, social media, and did some work for my foundation. Well, I started the night before. I have a Personality of the Month Award program, which recognizes hardworking, talented, intelligent and deserving young Belizeans. I also conduct Interview Features (Holistic Conversations) with good, hardworking Belizeans, sharing life stories of struggles, triumphs, journeys, et al. Even though I was entirely occupied with post graduate level academics and research, I usually communicated on a daily/weekly basis with comrades of my foundation. Our discussions included a high variety — education and curriculums, political agendas and democracy, enterprise and economic development, history and culture, et al. The selection process for the Interview Features and Personality of the Month Award was and still is complex. I have and continue to scout Belizeans who epitomize ‘Wisdom, Intellect, Discipline, Excellence’, the core values of my foundation. I also provided support while I was in London (as time allowed) to my younger comrades in high school or university. I helped developing their essays, business plans, marketing plans, communication projects, and relative support.

I remember meeting Yvette Sanker Riverol, via social media. She was introduced to me by a student or teacher (I believe). She has supported my foundation’s efforts since then. I selected her for an official interview feature, and her story was remarkable! She is the leading light for the selection of honorees from Corozal for our annual Graduation Recognition program. This program celebrates and networks the honor graduates from high schools and junior colleges yearly. The program features presentations and profiles of achievements of each honor graduate, and is hosted on our official platform online. I graduated from high school in 2006, as Salutatorian. I wished (in 2006) to have met the many other honor graduates from across the country. However, I only knew four (Floridalma, Alejandro, Abel, Mirna). Actually, all of us graduated from Primary School in 2002. Thus, in 2008, under the tutelage of my foundation, I established this prestigious program. It’s a small effort, but I believe it’s significant! Yvette and I usually have excellent conversations, despite our busy schedules (smiles)!

I spent most of my morning at my office desk, in my room, doing my foundation’s work. In the afternoon, I showered, and went for a stroll. I also went to Nandos for lunch, but it was extremely busy. I saw many tourists taking photos and observing the diverse tourist attractions in the Greenwich area. I noticed some tourists had flags (probably of their respective countries) with them. I also saw some of the tourists with bags filled with souvenirs (I believe they bought from the London Souvenir Shops around the Greenwich Area). There were three souvenirs shops on the high street. I bought a few stuffs from each of them too, well, later in the year. I walked down the high street, and went to Sainsbury. I purchased water, cupcakes, bread, fruits, and a few other essentials. The flea markets were abuzz with activity too. I always looked inside the barber shop (opposite our university library). Sometimes, I saw people I knew from university. I didn’t like the ‘openness’ (it was all glass windows, and passers-by can see when you are getting a haircut) of this barber shop.

After I dropped off my groceries, I had some cookies. After this, I went to the library to continue my assignment for Thursday class. We had to submit it a few days before Christmas. I left the library around 730pm, and went to Nandos for their first class Grilled Chicken, French Fries and Curry Rice. That made my night! I was so hungry!!! I enjoyed!

I went back to library later, to continue my assignment.

I went home around 11pm that night.

London was bright! London was full of parties, and fun on a Friday night! The pubs were crowded, and the people were merry!

I went to sleep.

I’m quite exhausted for tonight. I will continue my journey in a next edition of Letter from Kenrick Mark.

Sincerely yours,

Kenrick Mark
