*Meet Nigel! ~

I am Nigel Anthony Romero. I am 16 years of age, and I consider myself a very humble, modest individual. Growing up, I was raised by both parents who tried their best to nurture me into a disciplined individual!

I grew up in a family whereby farming was the substantial way of living. Both my parents had no regular job — my mother is a house-wife and my father doesn’t have a regular job. He had to ‘scrape’ what he could find — which is referred to by many Belizeans as ‘ketch and kill’. I believe that this way of living has the greatest impact on my life. I aspired to achieve a better future.

With my parents constantly advising me, I knew that I had to value education. Growing up, I was always ready to learn something new. I have always tried to integrate extracurricular activities with academics. For instance, I learnt how to play chess and this has definitely contributed to my learning — I learnt how to think critically, think ahead and make better decisions. It also improved my interpersonal skills just like volleyball does.

Although I have always been referred to as ‘small’, my dreams have always been a hundred times greater than the debts of those who described me as such! I try to maintain a very positive and optimistic attitude towards anything I do.
